I can’t believe it’s September already. Last month, a lot of interesting leads came in. We also got permission to reprint Novel Activist articles. I will try to get some of these things up this month. We are still looking for a decent download of Novel Activist. The current archives are a bit skimpy on the images.
Victorian Children: A colleague found an interesting colorized video featuring the children of the Lumiere family in 1896. A real slice of life. Take a look here.
Father with Children: There’s an interesting trailer for a recent film called People Places Things (2015). Word is that the girls did some great acting. Take a look.
Being a student of history, especially the Victorian era I am aghast at how real they look. The closest thing to a time machine!
If I had a wish list to colorize and upscale old films, it would be the few movies taken aboard the Titanic before she sailed, and the home movies taken aboard the Czar’s total family’s yacht with his daughters including Anastasia.
Wow, not just colorized. Those were the earliest days of cinema, and movies were silent (as they were even in the 1920’s). So the sounds must have been added also.
Actually, that’s right. They may have made concurrent sound recordings and synced the two later. I didn’t really look at it too closely, but the sounds did seem pretty coordinated.
Many people commented about the canned sounds and how phony they sounded. I agree. They did sound phony.
