This is one of those lone images I collected years ago and wasn’t sure what to do with. It seemed like a good choice for a Drawn and Quoted post, and so here it is. The website Noorderlicht explains that this image was one of a series in which the photographer documented tens years in the life of a girl, Raphaëla. Van Eekelen wanted to bear witness to the changes in the girl’s body, as she wished to reconnect with that part of her own life, a time period she had trouble recalling. I’m pairing the image with a quote from Carol Shields’ novel The Stone Diaries:
“A childhood is what anyone wants to remember of it. It leaves behind no fossils, except perhaps in fiction.” – Carol Shields, The Stone Diaries
Does anyone have a link to this series?
