Today’s featured artist, John Edward Costigan, was a Rhode Island-based painter and illustrator and America’s answer to German Expressionism. Costigan was fascinated by the rustic farmers and other rural folk of New England and clearly admired their work ethic, as well as their connectedness to nature. Children, of course, crop up in much of his work.
